DRUMSTICK (MURUNGAI)

  DRUMSTICK

(MURUNGAI)

Moringa is also the botanical name (Moringa Oleifera) for drumstick that takes its name from Murungai (Tamil) or Muringa (Malayalam). While it grows in most parts of India, it's probably more ubiquitous in Southern India.

A study published in the American Journal of Neuroscience reveals that drumstick exhibited amazing aphrodisiac property and improves the testosterone levels, increasing sexual virality and libido. Furthermore, Ayurveda recommends including drumstick flowers to improve the sperm count and treat ED.

Consuming drumsticks on a regular basis may help you streamline blood circulation well. Constantly changing weather and hectic lifestyle takes a toll on the immune system. Drumstick and its healthy green leaves act as an immunity booster that helps control body temperature during a fever.

The most effective way to include this in your diet is by adding it to your dal or sambar. It adds an extra crunch to the curry without spoiling the taste. Drumstick leaves can be used to make a dry dish. Pan fry the chopped leaves with olive oil and some salt to taste and you are good to go.

An average drumstick weighs about 4 ounces, with roughly 1 1/2 ounces of meat (without skin or bone). Plan on two drumsticks per person or more for big eaters. One drumstick should be enough for children under 6.

Some drumstick benefits for male are that it maintains prostate health, manages Erectile Dysfunction, regulates blood sugar levels, and improves fertility levels among men. Moreover, it promotes anti-aging properties on your skin, improves hair health, makes bones strong, and aids in weight loss.

USES OF DRUMSTICK LEAVES & FLOWERS:

Drumstick leaves have antiseptic properties which make them a good choice for antiseptic creams. Murungai keerai is also useful in treating ear and eye infections. Its anti-infective property helps in providing relief from fevers, scurvy, and bronchitis.

The flowers have been traditionally used in tonics that are meant to reduce inflammation and for nursing mothers. If you're a Tisane lover, you can let the flowers steep in hot water for 5-6 minutes, and add honey to sweeten it. The flowers are also enjoyed as a snack: simply fry in any neutral tasting oil.
